Turkish Armenian Reconciliation Committee ( Tarc ) Essay
The Turkish government arguing the validity of the history has been under discussion as far as the genocide. As they argue history is subjective therefore, it is not a fact that the genocide ever happened. Theyââ¬â¢ve asserted that the genocide is some idea brought about by historians that have tried to sensationalize things so they can make a name for themselves. According to Theriault there is a ââ¬Å"Turkishâ⬠and an ââ¬Å"Armenianâ⬠view of the history and each are extreme with either of them being more valid than the other. Theriault goes on to talk about the ââ¬Å"Turkish Armenian Reconciliation Committee (TARC) and how it was an ââ¬Å"ill-fated initiativeâ⬠based on the idea that resolution of the tension between Armenians and Turks could be accomplished through a negotiated settlement of the various issues each side perceived as important, including the history of 1915.â⬠These tactics were used so that the Turkish government would seem like they w ere trying to aid in the Armenian cause, although, nothing had come of this ââ¬Å"showâ⬠for the public audience. Scholars that deny the genocide claim Armenians are ââ¬Å"victimsâ⬠resulting in a negative relationship with the Turks today. This claim by denial scholars perpetuates the Anti-Armenian sentiment shared by the leadership of Turkey and enables the domination relationship they have with Armenians.
